Another distinction in this song would be in between the DAMN religious mislead father figure and the origin as father as symbolic of religious figure. It is hard to tell which is which.  Most of his songs is hard to have a fixed view as it comes in many dimensions.

The music video depicts a relationship between a cab driver (Michael) and a high-fashion model (Tania Coleridge). Various intercut flashbacks tell a backstory. Michael and Andy Morahan^[1] won "Best Direction of a Video" at the 1988 MTV Video Music Awards for the video.

"Father Figure" is a U.S. number-one hit song written and performed by George Michael and released on Columbia Records in 1988 as the third single from the album Faith.

Released in the United Kingdom in January 1988, "Father Figure" reached number eleven on the UK Singles Chart – the first time Michael had failed to reach the top ten in his home country. The song remained a live favourite at Michael's concerts for many years and is also one of his most frequently aired songs on the radio in the United Kingdom.

In the United States, "Father Figure" became George Michael's sixth number one single (including three number one singles garnered as half of Wham!). "Father Figure" debuted at number 49 on 16 January 1988, while "Faith" was still prominent (at number nine) in the top ten of the chart. In the subsequent weeks, "Father Figure" was a surefire hit, reaching number one by its seventh week, 27 February 1988, staying at the top for two weeks. Altogether, the single spent six weeks in the top ten, nine weeks in the top twenty, and 14 weeks in the top forty.

The Strangest Thing

Singing this song which I felt very strange too.  It seems a very spiritual twisted within the song lyrics.  It is extremely well written and it is like part of my life too.  That's why George Michael is always in my heart even I did not have any opportunity to meet him face to face.  When I was in London, I did went close to his resident before his major car accident.  :et's us continue sing all his beautiful songs and continue reminds in our heart always.  I have improved over this release as compare the 1st attempt one week ago.

English singer George Michael released five studio albums, two compilation albums, two extended plays, 44 singles, three promotional singles, 16 music videos and four video albums. In his career, Michael sold 90 million records worldwide.^[1]

Michael's debut album, Faith, was released by Epic Records in the United Kingdom in October 1987. It included the singles "I Want Your Sex", "Faith" (the Billboard Hot 100 year-end number-one single of 1988 in the United States), "Father Figure", "One More Try" and "Monkey". The album peaked at number one in the UK Albums Chart, and was certified 4× Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).^[2][3] It also peaked at number one on the US Billboard 200 and was certified Diamond for sales of over 10 million.^[4][5] Also in 1987, Michael collaborated with Aretha Franklin on the UK and US number one single "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)".^[2][6] In September 1990, Michael released his second album, Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1, which peaked at number one in the UK, number two in the US, and was certified 4× Platinum by the BPI.^[2][3][4] The album spawned the singles; "Praying for Time", "Waiting for That Day", "Freedom! '90", "Heal the Pain" and "Cowboys and Angels".

In December 1991, Michael released "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", a duet with Elton John; it reached number one in the UK and US.^[2][6] In 1992, Michael recorded "Too Funky", for the charity project Red Hot + Dance; the song reached number four in the UK and number ten in the US.^[2][6] In 1993, Michael released the Five Live EP, which contained tracks performed at The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert with Queen and Lisa Stansfield. It debuted at number one in the UK and was certified Gold.^[2][3] In early 1996, Michael released "Jesus to a Child", a UK number-one single.^[2] The follow-up "Fastlove", also peaked at number one in the UK.^[2] Following "Fastlove", the album Older was released, in May 1996. Michael's fourth studio album, Songs from the Last Century, was released in December 1999 and included cover versions of popular songs. His next album, Patience, was released in March 2004 and peaked at number one in the UK.^[2] Twenty Five, released in 2006, was Michael's second greatest hits album, celebrating the 25th anniversary of his music career. It debuted at number one in the UK.^[2] The album contains songs mainly from Michael's solo career and three new songs: "An Easier Affair" and "This Is Not Real Love" (a duet with Mutya Buena, then a member of the Sugababes, and now a member of Mutya Keisha Siobhan). In December 2008, Michael released a new track "December Song" on his website for free.^[7] The following year, "December Song" was officially released as commercially. This was followed by "True Faith" (which was a UK top 30 and Irish top 40 hit, and an extensive re-working of the New Order song); and "You and I", an other charity single. This song is one of the song really had decorated my life.  When the song first released in the year 1979, I was still in the high school and do not know much about it until the year 1982 onward.  I have started my singing in bathroom since 1982 when my beloved late mommy used to teased me about my un-natural voice and she would described it as my voice was pulling the cows to the trees.  Despite all that criticism, I have never give up my singing and sing that till today.  As I aged, I become better as the days goes by.  Both of my late beloved parents sung well and one of my closed beloved aunt was a singer too.

The song was Michael's first single in almost two years, entering the UK Singles Chart in August 1990.

A dark and sombre reflection on social ills and injustice, it was hailed by critics, with James Hunter of Rolling Stone magazine describing the song as "a distraught look at the world's astounding woundedness. Michael offers the healing passage of time as the only balm for physical and emotional hunger, poverty, hypocrisy and hatred."^[1]

The single peaked at number six in the UK, but it was his ninth number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the USA. The song remained in the Billboard top 40 for ten weeks.^[2] It was the first song of political motivation he had released as a single since his earliest days with Wham!.
The song was the first of five released in the UK from the album Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1, although it was the only one of the quintet to make the UK top 10.

While George Michael refused to appear in videos to support the album, an experimental video clip directed by Michael Borofsky was released for "Praying for Time", featuring only the lyrics of the song with a blue and black background that, at the end of the clip, reveals itself to be the image on the cover of the album. The completely un-George Michael style video quickly became a buzz clip on MTV, and stayed in rotation on most video networks for weeks. Similarly, the commercial single had no cover photo, only words.
