Goodbye Girl (Cover Version of David gates - The Bread)

Goodbye Girl

Another beautiful song from David Gates and here again to entertain your ears. Yesterday I was talking the one of the owner's cat and he was pissed off with me as I came back late. I told him I was working late and not enjoying my life for fun. I work like a dog and work hard for the money. To survive !!!!! I believe the cat missed me ... LOL

GoodBye Girl

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Goodbye Girl is the third solo album by David Gates of Bread. The song "Goodbye Girl" was also used in the movie of the same name.

"Took the Last Train" was released as a follow-up single, which also became a U.S. and Canadian Top 40 hit.

Only tracks 1-4, 6 and 7 are new material; the remainder are reissued from previous albums.

Following Never Let Her Go, Gates, Knechtel and Botts reunited with Griffin.  (Robb Royer had left Bread after 1971’s Manna, and was replaced by Wrecking Crew veteran Knechtel.)  Bread’s “reunion” album Lost Without Your Love yielded the group’s final Top 10 hit with the title track, again written by Gates.  But with Bread’s reunion a short-lived one, Gates plunged into more solo work, and was rewarded with his biggest-ever solo hit with 1977’s “Goodbye Girl.”  The theme to Neil Simon’s film comedy The Goodbye Girl, it reached a No. 15 Pop peak, and an album was built around the song.  (The vocalist Rumer has recently applied her honeyed voice to a cover of Gates’ emotional composition.)  Joining “Goodbye Girl” and five more new Gates compositions (including the breezy “Took the Last Train” and the bleak “Overnight Sensation”) were five retreads from First and Never Let Her Go; accordingly, Edsel has only included the six original songs on the Goodbye Girl portion of the reissue.

All your life you've waited for love to come and stay
And now that I have found you, you must not slip away
I know it's hard believin' the words you've heard before
But darlin' you must trust them just once more 'cause baby

Goodbye doesn't mean forever
Let me tell you goodbye doesn't mean
We'll never be together again
If you wake up and I'm not there, I won't be long away
'Cause the things you do my goodbye girl
Will bring me back to you

I know you've been taken, afraid to hurt again
You fight the love you feel for me instead of givin' in
But I can wait forever, a helpin' you to see
That I was meant for you and you for me
So remember

Goodbye doesn't mean forever
Let me tell you goodbye doesn't mean
We'll never be together again
Though we may be so far apart you still will have my heart
So forget your past my goodbye girl
'Cause now you're home at last

If (Cover Version of David Gates - Bread)

IF

I used to have one of my working colleagues love to sing this song very well. Since then I have been paying attention on this song and I also develop my skill to sing this song on FALSETTO voices. The wording of the song amazed me a lot. Just imagine this sentence says ... as follows ..

If.

If

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"If" is a song written by American singer-songwriter David Gates in 1971. Originally popularized by his group Bread, the song charted at number four on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 when released as a single in 1971 and number six in Canada. The song also spent three weeks at number one on the U.S. Easy Listening chart,[1] and one week at the top of the Canadian AC chart.[2]

In the U.S., Bread's version was the shortest song title to become a top ten hit until 1993, when Prince hit No. 7 with "7", later matched by Britney Spears' No. 1 hit "3" in 2009.

"If" has been a perennial favorite at weddings (for example, as a first-dance song) ever since it was released.[3]

If a picture paints a thousand words
Then why can't I paint you?
The words will never show, the you I've come to know
If a face could launch a thousand ships
Then where am I to go?
There's no one home but you, you're all that's left me too

And when my love for life is running dry
You come and pour yourself on me

If a man could be two places at one time
I'd be with you
Tomorrow and today, beside you all the way
If the world should stop revolvin' spinning slowly down to die
I'd spend the end with you
And when the world was through

Then one by one the stars would all go out
Then you and I would simply fly away

Make It With You (Cover Version of David Gates - The Bread)

Make It With You ...

After months absent singing this song, it has rusted some part of the song. I used to sing a lot of their songs and now it's time to revive it back again. Still plenty of room to further improve this song. LOL ... I still share this out too. I also wanna make it with you .... American Got Talents would be end of summer and preparing for that too.

Make It With You

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Make It with You" is a song written by David Gates and originally recorded by the pop-rock group Bread, of which Gates was a member. The song was a #1 hit.

The song first appeared on Bread's 1970 album, On the Waters. Released as a single that June, it was the group's first top-ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and spent the week of August 22, 1970, at number one, their only single to do so; it also reached #5 on the UK Singles Chart. Billboard ranked "Make It with You" as the #13 song of 1970,[1] and it was certified gold by the RIAA for sales of over one million copies.

When the song was released, David Gates's mother was asked by a local interviewer how her son's music career was going. Misunderstanding the song's title, she replied that his group had just recorded a song called "Naked with You."

Hey have you ever tried
Really reaching out for the other side?
I may be climbing on rainbows
But baby, here goes

Dreams are for those who sleep
Life is for us to keep
And if you're wondering what this song is leading to,
I want to make it with you

I really think that we could make it, girl

Though you don't know me well
And every little thing only time will tell
If you believe the things that I do,
And we'll see it through

Life can be short or long
Love can be right or wrong
And if I chose the one I'd like to help me through
I'd like to make it with you

I really think that we could make it, girl

Baby you know that dreams there for those who sleep
Life is for us to keep
And if I chose the one I'd like to help me through
I'd like to make it with you

I really think that we could make it, girl

Everything I Own (Cover Version of David Gates - The Bread)

Everything I Own ...

41 years ago today, Bread – the band, not the tasty baked treat – released the single that gave them their fourth top-five hit on the Billboard Hot 100.
Like the three big hits that preceded it, “Everything I Own” was written by David Gates, who – along with Jimmy Griffin and Rob Royer – was one of the founding members of Bread. The song was written by Gates as a tribute to his late father. “My success would’ve been so special to him, as he was my greatest influence,” Gates said in the book 1000 UK #1 Hits. “So I decided to write and record ‘Everything I Own’ about him. If you listen to he words, ‘You sheltered me from harm, kept me warm, gave my life to me, set me free,’ it says it all.”
When “Everything I Own” was released in 1972, it made it to #5 on the Billboard
Beyond that, there have also been covers by a remarkably diverse collection of other artists, including – but not limited to – Shirley Bassey, The Connells, Crystal Gayle, Susanna Hoffs and Matthew Sweet, Chrissie Hynde, Vanessa Hudgins, Olivia Newton-John, Rod Stewart, and…Tesla? Man, this song really has been covered by just about everyone…

Everything I Own

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Everything I Own" is a song written by David Gates. It was originally recorded by Gates's rock band Bread for their 1972 album Baby I'm-a Want You.

"According to the book 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh, at his father's funeral, a friend took David Gates aside and said, "Your dad was so proud of what you were doing." David agreed by replying, "My success would have been so special to him as he was my greatest influence. So I decided to write and record Everything I Own about him. If you listen to the words, 'You sheltered me from harm, kept me warm, gave my life to me, set me free,' it says it all.”[1]

The original hit number five on the American Billboard Hot 100. Billboard ranked it as the No. 52 song for 1972.[2]

You sheltered me from harm
Kept me warm, kept me warm
You gave my life to me
Set me free, set me free
The finest years I ever knew
Were all the years I had with you

And I would give anything I own
Give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again

You taught me how to love
What it's of, what it's of
You never said too much
But still you showed the way
And I knew from watching you
Nobody else could ever know
The part of me that can't let go

And I would give anything I own
Give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again

Is there someone you know
You're loving them so
But taking them all for granted
You may lose them one day
Someone takes them away
And they don't hear the words you long to say

I would give anything I own
Give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again
Just to touch you once again

Baby I'm-a Want You

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Baby I'm-a Want You" is a popular song by the American pop-rock band Bread. The single was released in October 1971 (see 1971 in music). It became the title track for the album of the same name, released in January 1972.

It was one of Bread's highest-charting singles in both the U.S. and U.K. In the U.S., it reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in December 1971, the third of Bread's four top-five hits ("Make It with You", #1 in 1970; "If", #4 earlier in 1971; and "Everything I Own", from the same album, #5 in 1972). "Baby I'm-a Want You" reached the top of the easy listening chart and rose to #14 on the UK Singles Chart in February 1972.

It was certified as a gold record by the RIAA. As with virtually all of the band's well-known recordings, the song was both written and produced by the band's lead vocalist, David Gates.

Baby I'm-a want you
Baby I'm-a need you
You're the only one I care enough to hurt about
Maybe I'm-a crazy
But I just can't live without
your lovin' and affection
Givin' me direction
Like a guiding light to help me through a darkest hour
Lately I'm a-prayin'
That you'll always be a-stayin' beside me

Used to be my life was just emotions passing by
Feeling all the while and never really knowing why

Lately I'm a-prayin'
That you'll always be a-stayin' beside me.

Used to be my life was just emotions passing by
Then you came along and made me laugh and made me cry
You taught me why

Baby I'm-a want you
Baby I'm-a need you

Oh, it took so long to find you, baby

Baby I'm-a want you
Baby I'm-a need you

Everything I Own

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Everything I Own" is a song written by David Gates. It was originally recorded by Gates's rock band Bread for their 1972 album Baby I'm-a Want You.

Although initial listeners may have interpreted it as a song about a broken relationship, Gates would later reveal that it was a song about the passing of his father. So I decided to write and record "Everything I Own" about him. If you listen to the words, 'You sheltered me from harm, kept me warm, gave my life to me, set me free,' it says it all.”[1]

The original hit number five on the American Billboard Hot 100. Billboard ranked it as the No. 52 song for 1972.[2] "Everything I Own" also reached number five in Canada.

Song Lyrics

You sheltered me from harm
Kept me warm, kept me warm
You gave my life to me
Set me free, set me free
The finest years I ever knew
Were all the years I had with you

And I would give anything I own
Give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again

You taught me how to love
What it's of, what it's of
You never said too much
But still you showed the way
And I knew from watching you
Nobody else could ever know
The part of me that can't let go

And I would give anything I own
Give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again

Is there someone you know
You're loving them so
But taking them all for granted
You may lose them one day
Someone takes them away
And they don't hear the words you long to say

I would give anything I own
Give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again
