Moon River (Cover Version of Andy Williams)

Moon River

Moon River is one of the childhood song that my late beloved father love to pay this song over RPM record player.  Andy Williams had this song song on this small record and I still recall how the album look like.  Later it was play over some 5 1/4 inches cassette and later the small cassette player.  Music is part of my spine and it was with me since I am able to speak my mother tongue.
"Moon River" is a song composed by Henry Mancini with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. It received an Academy Award for Best Original Song for its performance by Audrey Hepburn in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961).[1] It also won Mancini the 1962 Grammy Award for Record of the Year and won Mancini and Mercer the Grammy Award for Song of the Year.[2] The song has been covered by many other artists.

It became the theme song for Andy Williams, who first recorded it in 1961 and performed it at the Academy Awards ceremony in 1962. He sang the first eight bars of the song at the beginning of each episode of his eponymous television show and named his production company and venue in Branson, Missouri after it. His autobiography is called "Moon River" and Me. Williams' version was never released as a single, but it charted as an LP track that he recorded for Columbia on a hit album of 1962. Cadence Records' president Archie Bleyer disliked Williams' version, as Bleyer believed it had little or no appeal to teenagers.[3] Forty years later in 2002, a 74-year-old Williams sang the song at the conclusion of the live telecast of the NBC 75th Anniversary Special to a standing ovation.[4]

The song's success was responsible for relaunching Mercer's career as a songwriter, which had stalled in the mid-1950s because rock and roll had replaced jazz standards as the popular music of the time. The song's popularity is such that it has been used as a test sample in a study on people's memories of popular songs.[5]

Comments about the lyrics have noted that they are particularly reminiscent of Mercer's youth in the Southern United States and his longing to expand his horizons.[6] Robert Wright wrote in The Atlantic Monthly, "This is a love sung to wanderlust. Or a romantic song in which the romantic partner is the idea of romance."[7] An inlet near Savannah, Georgia, Johnny Mercer's hometown, was named Moon River in honor of him and this song.[5]

Moon River

Mercer and Mancini wrote the song for Audrey Hepburn to fit her vocal range. The lyrics, written by Mercer, are reminiscent of his childhood in Savannah, Georgia, including its waterways. As a child, he had picked huckleberries in summer, and connected them with a carefree childhood and Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn.[6][8]

Although an instrumental version is played over the film's opening titles, the lyrics are first heard in a scene where Paul "Fred" Varjak (George Peppard) discovers Holly Golightly (Hepburn) singing them, accompanied by her guitar, on the fire escape outside their apartments.

There was an eruption of behind-the-scenes consternation when a Paramount Pictures executive, Martin Rackin, suggested removing the song from the film after a tepid Los Angeles preview. Hepburn's reaction was described by Mancini and others in degrees varying from her saying, "over my dead body", to her using somewhat more colorful language to make the same point.[9] Hepburn's version was uncredited in the original movie soundtrack.

An album version recorded by Mancini and his chorus was released as a single and became a number 11 hit in December 1961.[10] Due to unpublished charts in Billboard, Joel Whitburn's Top Adult (Contemporary) Songs variously reported the song as a #3 or #1 easy listening hit. Mancini's original version was also featured in the film Born on the Fourth of July (1989). In 1993, following Hepburn's death, her version was released on an album titled Music from the Films of Audrey Hepburn. In 2004, Hepburn's version finished at #4 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs survey of top tunes in American cinema.

 Lyrics

Moon river, wider than a mile
I'm crossing you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you're going, I'm going your way

Two drifters, off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after the same rainbow's end, waiting ,round the bend
My Huckleberry Friend, Moon River, and me

Love Story (Cover Version of Andy Williams)

LOVE Story (Where Do I Begin) ...

My personal love story had been kaput for many years.  Somehow I am still singing this song and love every second of it.  I will be singing this song again soon this week and see any improvement over it.
Love Story is an album by American pop singer Andy Williams that was released on February 3, 1971, by Columbia Records.[1] It made its first appearance on the Top LP's chart in the issue of Billboard magazine dated February 20, 1971, and remained there for 33 weeks, peaking at number three.[5] One month later, on March 22, the album received Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America, and Platinum certification was awarded on November 21, 1986.[6] For its release in the UK, the album was entitled Home Lovin' Man and did not include the title song from the original album (which was subtitled "Where Do I Begin?"), and this retitled edition entered the UK album chart on March 27, 1971, and spent two weeks at number one during its 26 weeks there.[7] The title track from the original album was included on a UK LP that was also called Love Story but otherwise had a completely different set of songs, and that release entered the UK album chart on July 31 of that year and reached number 11 over the course of 11 weeks.[7]

Love Story

The first single from the original Love Story album was, in fact, "(Where Do I Begin) Love Story", which entered the Billboard Hot 100 in the issue of the magazine dated February 6, 1971, and stayed on the chart for 13 weeks, eventually peaking at number nine.[8] The song also entered the magazine's list of the 40 most popular Easy Listening songs of the week in that same issue for its first of 15 weeks, later spending four weeks at number one and tying his previous record there, which was set by "Can't Get Used to Losing You" in 1963.[9] Its lifespan on the UK singles chart began on March 20 of that same year and lasted 18 weeks, during which time it reached number four.[7] The first single from the Home Lovin' Man LP was that album's title track, which began a seven-week run to number 10 and back on the Easy Listening chart in the US on October 24, 1970.[9] Although it did not make the pop chart stateside, it did enter the UK singles chart on November 21, 1970, and got as high as number seven during its 12 weeks there.[7]

The original Love Story album was released on compact disc for the first time by Columbia Records in 1988.[2] A Columbia 3-CD box set including this album along with Andy Williams' Greatest Hits and Andy Williams' Greatest Hits Vol. 2 was released on August 12, 1997.[10]

"(Where Do I Begin?) Love Story" is a popular song published in 1970, with music by Francis Lai and lyrics by Carl Sigman. The song was first introduced as an instrumental theme in the 1970 film Love Story. The lyrics were added after the theme music became popular.
The song also served as the theme of the 1973–74 NBC romantic anthology television series Love Story.

 Lyrics

Where do I begin
To tell the story of how great a love can be
The sweet love story that is older than the sea
The simple truth about the love she brings to me
Where do I start

With her first hello
She gave new meaning to this empty world of mine
There'd never be another love, another time
She came into my life and made the living fine
She fills my heart

She fills my heart with very special things
With angels' songs, with wild imaginings
She fills my soul with so much love
That anywhere I go I'm never lonely
With her around, who could be lonely
I reach for her hand, it's always there

How long does it last
Can love be measured by the hours in a day
I have no answers now but this much I can say
I know I'll need her 'till the stars all burn away
And she'll be there

Moon River (Cover Version of Andy Williams)

Moon River

Moon River is one my favoutie oldies, way back from my childhood.  Would like to dedicate this song to our beloved old birdie Andy Williams.  He was introduced to me by my late beloved father.  Somehow many of his songs came naturally to me and love to sing most of the Andy Williams songs.

Love Story (Cover Version of Andy Williams)

LOVE Story (Where Do I Begin) ...

Another love story has began.  This would be a slightly complicated and this song I sung would be for this circumstances.  Where do I Begin is the key word for this romance.  So happy listening to Love Story on Christmas Eve.  Let me start the Christmas Eve by asking myself  "Where Do I Begin .... "

Andy Williams had gone away on September 15th, 2012 and I was not aware of that at all his passing away.  My late beloved dad whom passed away on September 1st, 2012, had introduced to me this old birdie Ever-Green Oldies Singer when I was a kid.  At that time I did not know much about him.  As I grow older, I began to appreciated all his songs he sung in his life time.  His golden voices can shaken the whole world.
