Lionel Richie Wrote Kenny Rogers' Song "Lady" "In the Toilet," Rogers Says
Some people get their best ideas in the shower. Lionel Richie apparently does his thinking elsewhere in the bathroom. According to longtime pal Kenny Rogers, the "Hello" singer wrote Rogers' 1980 hit song "Lady" while "in the toilet" at a recording studio.
"I called Lionel, and I said, 'I'd like for you to write a song for me,'" the "Islands in the Stream" singer, now 75, recalled on the Today show on Thursday, Aug. 14. "Lionel doesn't write entire songs. He writes ideas."
Sometimes unfinished ideas. Rogers — the subject of a new exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tenn. — said Richie had to finish Rogers' signature song "Lady" in the bathroom on the day they laid down the track.
"So, we're in the studio recording the song, and I said, 'Where's the second verse?'" he told Today correspondent Jenna Bush Hager. "They said, 'Lionel's in the toilet writing it right now.' I go, 'What?' And they said, 'Yeah, he can't write unless he has the pressure to write.'"
Incredulous, Bush Hager asked, "And so it was on a piece of toilet paper?"

"Yeah, I don't know," Rogers replied, laughing. "I don't know what it was on. But he went in there to kinda get away from everything, to focus."
Whatever he did, it worked. "Lady," which Richie also produced, was a huge hit, topping Billboard's Hot 100 chart for six weeks in a row in 1980.

From: Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia.
The song was written and produced by Lionel Richie, recorded in 1980, and ranks among Kenny Rogers's biggest hits. Rogers once told an interviewer, "The idea was that Lionel would come from R&B and I'd come from country, and we'd meet somewhere in pop."
The success of "Lady" also boosted Richie's career. The production work on the song was his first outside the Commodores and foreshadowed his success as a solo act during the 1980s. Rogers was also a featured vocalist on "We Are the World", co-written by Richie. Richie performed the song himself on his 1998 album, Time, and he and Rogers performed the song as a duet on Richie's 2012 release "Tuskegee".

Lyrics
Lady, I'm your knight in shining armor and I love you
You have made me what I am and I'm yours
My love, there's so many ways I want to say I love you
Let me hold you in my arms forever more
You have gone and made me such a fool
I'm so lost in your love
And oh, girl we belong together
Won't you believe in my song?
Lady, for so many years I thought I'd never find you
You have come into my life and, made me whole
Forever let me wake to see you each and every morning
Let me hear you whisper softly in my ear
In my eyes I see no one else but you
There's no other love like our love
Oh yes, girl I'll always want you near me
I've waited for you for so long
Oh, lady, your love's the only love I need
And beside me is where I want you to be
'Cause, my love, my love, there's somethin' I want you to know
You're the love of my life, of my life, you're my lady
You're my lady
