Release Me (And Let Me Love Again) - (Cover Version of Engelbert Humperdinck)

Release Me ...

Fortunately I was grew up with this song.  This is one of my late beloved father's favourite song.  This Oldies song is evergreen in England.  There are so many old folks love this song in the pubs where I sung.  Almost everyone will sing alone with you.  I sung this song in one of my xfactor in UK and also BGT too.

"Release Me" (sometimes rendered as "Release Me (and Let Me Love Again)"), is a popular song written by Eddie Miller and Robert Yount in 1949. Shortly afterward it was covered by Jimmy Heap, and with even better success by Ray Price and Kitty Wells. Subsequently, a big seller was recorded by Little Esther Phillips, who reached number one on the R&B chart and number eight on the pop chart.[1] A version by Engelbert Humperdinck reached number one on the UK Singles Chart.[2]

The Engelbert Humperdinck song has the distinction in the UK of holding the number-one slot in the chart for six weeks during March and April 1967, and preventing The Beatles single, "Penny Lane" / "Strawberry Fields Forever", from reaching the top. "Release Me" was also the highest selling single of 1967 in the UK, recording over one million sales, and eventually became one of the best selling singles of all time with sales of 1.38 million copies.[3]

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Although Miller later claimed to have written the song in 1946 and only being able to record it himself in 1949, he co-wrote it with Robert Yount in 1949.[4] As they were working at that time with Dub Williams, (a pseudonym of James Pebworth),[5] they gave him one-third of the song. The song was released with the writing credited to Miller-Williams-Gene, as Yount was using his stage name of Bobby Gene.[4]

Although owner of Four Star Records, William McCall, would usually add his pseudonym "W.S. Stevenson" to the credit of songs he published, he failed to do so in 1949. However, in 1957, Miller and Yount entered into a new publishing agreement with Four Star Records, in which "W.S. Stevenson" replaced Williams as co-writer.[6]

Yount signed away his royalty rights to William McCall in 1958, after which the credits to the song officially became "Miller-Stevenson", although multiple variations also existed.[6] Engelbert Humperdinck's version, for example, is credited to Eddie Miller, Robert Yount, Dub Williams and Robert Harris. That last one, however, turned out to be also a pseudonym for James Pebworth.[7]

With the bankruptcy of Four Star’s successor in interest, the copyright to the song was acquired by Acuff-Rose Music. When the initial term of copyright ended in 1983, it was renewed for a second term. Between 1983 and 1985 Acuff-Rose paid royalties to Yount, until they were notified by the family of the deceased William McCall of the 1958 assignment. Acuff-Rose then suspended payments until the dispute between the claimants was resolved. On December 24, 1996 the United States Courts of Appeals, Ninth Circuit, upheld the claim of the McCalls.[6]

The story of how the song reached number one in the UK Singles Chart[8] is one of pure chance and being in the right place at the right time. In 1965, Humperdinck, who at the time was performing under the name of Gerry Dorsey, met up again with an old friend of his, Gordon Mills. By this time Mills was successfully managing Tom Jones. He took him onto his management roster and changed his name. He released a couple of near misses in the UK although one song "Dommage, Dommage" had been successful in Europe.[2]

Early in 1967, Humperdinck was asked to stand in for Dickie Valentine, who was ill, on the variety TV show Sunday Night at the London Palladium.[2] The show was one of the biggest rating shows in the UK at the time. He sang his latest song, "Release Me", an old US country hit, on the show and it reached number one in the UK Singles Chart on 2 March and stayed there for six weeks, keeping "Penny Lane"/"Strawberry Fields Forever" by The Beatles off the top of the charts in the process.[2] The record stayed in the charts for a record fifty-six consecutive weeks.[9]

The B-side, "Ten Guitars", became a surprise hit in New Zealand among young Maori moving to the cities for work, and not long after, the wider New Zealand music scene itself.[10] 'Ten Guitars' later served as the name for a documentary on New Zealand popular music.[11]

Song Lyrics
Please release me, let me go
For I don't love you anymore
To waste our lives would be a sin
Release me and let me love again

I have found a new love, dear
And I will always want her near
Her lips are warm while yours are cold
Release me, my darling, let me go

(Please release me, let me go)
For I don't love you anymore
(To waste my life would be a sin)
So release me and let me love again

Please release me, can't you see
You'd be a fool to cling to me
To live our lives would bring us pain
So release me and let me love again
(Let me love, let me love)

When You Tell Me That You Love Me ...

When I was a in the late teenage, I used to sing this song in the bathroom.  I love to sing this song so much and sung them almost everyday.  IT was a great challenge for me as Diana Ross has a high pitch for this lovely song.

"When You Tell Me That You Love Me" is a 1991 song, written by Albert Hammond and John Bettis, released as a single by American soul singer Diana Ross. The song was subsequently covered by various artists.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"When You Tell Me That You Love Me" was the lead single from Diana Ross's 1991 album The Force Behind the Power released on the Motown label in the US and by EMI in the UK. The song, a sentimental ballad, was the album's biggest hit, peaking at number thirty-seven on the US Billboard R&B singles chart while peaking at number-two on the UK Singles Chart. Ross considers it one of her signature songs.[1] The UK release included her 1985 hit "Chain Reaction."[2]

It missed the UK Christmas number one spot for 1991 by a couple of hundred units, beaten out by the re-release of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" commemorating the passing of lead singer, Freddie Mercury. The single was awarded a Silver Disc for UK sales exceeding 200,000 copies.

The single's music video featured scenes of Ross in an evening gown singing on stage intercut with home video footage of Ross with her two sons Ross & Evan.[3]

Song Lyrics
I wanna call the stars down from the sky
I wanna live a day that never dies
I wanna change the world only for you
All the impossible I wanna do

I wanna hold you close under the rain
I wanna kiss your smile and feel the pain
I know what's beautiful looking at you
In a world of lies you are the truth

And baby every time you touch me I become a hero
I'll make you safe no matter where you are
And bring you everything you ask for nothing is above me
I'm shining like a candle in the dark when you tell me that you love me

I wanna make you see just what I was
Show you the loneliness and what it does
You walked into my life to stop my tears
Everything's easy now I have you here

And baby every time you touch me I become a hero
I'll make you safe no matter where you are
And bring you everything you ask for nothing is above me
I'm shining like a candle in the dark when you tell me that you love me

In a world without you, I would always hunger
All I need is your love to make me stronger

And baby every time you touch me I become a hero
I'll make you safe no matter where you are
And bring you everything you ask for nothing is above me
I'm shining like a candle in the dark when you tell me that you love me
You love me, when you tell me that you love me

You needed me (Cover version of Anne Murray)

You Needed Me ...

First time attempt do this cover version ... You needed me ... I used to play this song over my guitar and that when I was 14 years old.  This time I sung this song at one of the local pub in Sunderland, England.

"You Needed Me" is a song written by Randy Goodrum, who describes it as being about "unconditional undeserved love".[2] It was a number one hit single in the United States in 1978 for Canadian singer Anne Murray, for which she won a Grammy Award. In 1999, Irish pop band Boyzone recorded a hit cover of the song that hit number one in the UK Singles Chart.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"You Needed Me" was first recorded by singer Anne Murray in 1978. The song peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and revitalized her career after several years of declining popularity as it became her first Top 40 US single since her 1974 remake of The Beatles' "You Won't See Me". The song, included on her 1978 album Let's Keep It That Way, was also a top-five country single and won Song of the Year at the Academy of Country Music awards, and is her most successful single in the United Kingdom where it made the top 30. Murray is quoted in The Billboard Book of Number One Hits by Fred Bronson as saying she was not surprised by the song's success, as she knew from the start the song would be a hit because she broke down in tears the first time she tried to sing it.

Although the song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (and is her only song to top that chart), it never topped the two Billboard charts where Murray has had the most success -- Country and Adult Contemporary. However, it spent a then-record 36 weeks on the Adult Contemporary chart, a record for chart longevity that stood until 1995.

The song earned Murray the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 21st Grammy Awards,[3] the first to be awarded to a Canadian artist.

Anne Murray re-recorded the song with Shania Twain for Murray's 2007 album Duets: Friends & Legends.

The song was featured in an ongoing storyline on the CBS soap Guiding Light in 1980–81, as a theme song for the characters Kelly Nelson and Morgan Richards. In 2013, the song was performed by Seth MacFarlane in character as Stewie Griffin on the Family Guy episode "Chris Cross", in which Anne Murray herself guest-starred.

I cried a tear
You wiped it dry
I was confused
You cleared my mind

I sold my soul
You bought it back for me
And held me up
And gave me dignity
Somehow you needed me

You gave me strength
To stand alone again
To face the world
Out on my own again

You put me high
Upon a pedestal
So high that I could
Almost see eternity
You needed me, you needed me

And I can't believe it's you
I can't believe it's true
I needed you
And you were there

And I'll never leave
Why should I leave, I'd be a fool
'Cause I've finally found
Someone who really cares

You held my hand
When it was cold
When I was lost
You took me home

You gave me hope
When I was at the end
And turned my lies
Back into truth again
You even called me friend

You gave me strength
To stand alone again
To face the world
Out on my own again

You put me high
Upon a pedestal
So high that I could
Almost see eternity
You needed me, you needed me
You needed me, you needed me

UK xFactor 2013 Bridge Over the Trouble Water

He's got a license to kill...with a song! James Nakasan shows the Judges what he's made of with his rendition of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'

Sadly I had screwed up my backing track and I was panic and the next came to my mind went BLANK space. I can't  remember any more the lyrics.  The main reason failed to reach 5th stage is the bloody home office of Eggland.  I will try again soon.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Bridge over Troubled Water" is a song by American music duo Simon & Garfunkel. Produced by the duo and Roy Halee, the song was released as the follow-up single to "The Boxer" in January 1970. The song is featured on their fifth studio album, Bridge over Troubled Water (1970). Composed by singer-songwriter Paul Simon, the song is performed on piano and carries the influence of gospel music. The original studio recording employs elements of Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound" technique using L.A. session musicians from the Wrecking Crew.[2][3]

It was the last song recorded for their fifth and final album, but the first fully completed.[4] The song's instrumentation was recorded in California while the duo's vocals were cut in New York.[4][5][6][7] Simon felt his partner, Art Garfunkel, should sing the song solo, an invitation Garfunkel initially declined.[8] Session musician Larry Knechtel performs piano on the song, with Joe Osborn playing bass guitar and Hal Blaine closing out the song with drums. The song won five awards at the 13th Annual Grammy Awards in 1971, including Grammy Award for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

The song became Simon & Garfunkel's biggest hit single, and it is often considered their signature song. It was a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks, and it also topped the charts in the United Kingdom, Canada, France, and New Zealand. It was a top five hit in eight other countries as well, eventually selling over six million copies worldwide, making it among the best-selling singles. It became one of the most performed songs of the twentieth century, with over 50 artists, among them Elvis Presley and Aretha Franklin, covering the song. It was ranked number 48 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

"Bridge over Troubled Water" was composed by Paul Simon very quickly, so much so that he asked himself, "Where did that come from? It doesn't seem like me." [8] The chorus lyrics were partly inspired by Claude Jeter's line "I'll be your bridge over deep water if you trust in me," which Jeter sang with his group, the Swan Silvertones, in the 1958 song "Mary Don't You Weep."[9] According to gospel producer and historian Anthony Heilbut, Simon later acknowledged his musical debt to Jeter in person, and additionally handed Jeter a check as compensation.[10] Simon wrote the song initially on guitar but decided to transpose it to the piano, to both better reflect the gospel influence and to suit Garfunkel's voice.[4]

When Simon showed the song to his partner, he informed him that he felt Garfunkel should sing it by himself, the "white choirboy way."[8] Garfunkel declined, feeling it was not right for him and believing that Simon should sing it.[4] Garfunkel reportedly liked Simon's falsetto on the demo and suggested that Simon sing. He and producer Roy Halee also thought the song needed three verses and a 'bigger' sound toward the end. Simon agreed and penned the final verse, though he felt it was less than fully cohesive with the earlier verses.[11] The final verse was written about Simon's then-wife Peggy Harper, who had noticed her first gray hairs ("Sail on, silvergirl").[12][13] It does not refer to a drug abuser's hypodermic needle, as is sometimes claimed.[14] The verse was Garfunkel's idea, and Simon has never cared for it.[15]

"Bridge over Troubled Water" was the final track to be recorded but the first one fully completed, with an additional two weeks of post-production.[4] Simon initially composed the song in G major, but arranger and composer Jimmie Haskell transposed the song to E-flat major to suit Garfunkel's voice.[16] The song was recorded in California, to make it easier for Garfunkel to go to Mexico to film Catch-22.[7] Simon wanted a gospel piano sound, and so he hired session musician Larry Knechtel. The song was initially two verses long, but Garfunkel felt the song was too short, and asked Knechtel to play a third verse, to which Simon would write more lyrics. Joe Osborn played the two bass guitars, one high and the other low. A horn section rounded off the song. The drums were played by Hal Blaine in an echo chamber to achieve a hall effect and Los Angeles session percussionist Gary Coleman played the vibraphone. Due to a series of factors, the duo had to work on a new tape; an arranger falsely labeled the song as "Like a Pitcher of Water", wrote Garfunkel's name incorrectly and the string part was unsatisfactory.[17]

Simon and Garfunkel then returned to New York to record the vocals.[18][5][4] The vocal style in "Bridge over Troubled Water" was inspired by Phil Spector's technique in "Old Man River" by The Righteous Brothers.[19] After two months the song was finalized. Simon himself admitted that it sounded like the Beatles' "Let It Be", stating in a Rolling Stone interview: "They are very similar songs, certainly in instrumentation ..."[20]

As their relations frayed preceding their 1970 breakup, Simon began to feel jealous that he allowed Garfunkel to sing it solo:
He felt I should have done it, and many times on a stage, though, when I'd be sitting off to the side and Larry Knechtel would be playing the piano and Artie would be singing "Bridge", people would stomp and cheer when it was over, and I would think, "That's my song, man..."[8]
The Song Lyrics taken from Wikia

When you're weary
Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I will dry them all

I'm on your side
When times get rough
And friends just can't be found

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you

I'll take your part
When darkness comes
And pain is all around

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

Sail on, Silver Girl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way

See how they shine
If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
